SpamRepellent Setup Instructions

Step 1: Change your DNS to point to Mail-Filters.com
The first change that needs to be made is to have your DNS administrator to place an additional MX record pointing to our mail servers in your DNS tables. The record should have the highest priority (lowest record number) for our service to work properly. As a guide a typical MX record could look like the following:
    @ MX 100 mail.example.com
When configuring your domain for SpamRepellent from Mail-Filters.com add this record:
    @ MX 1 SMTP-In.Mail-Filters.com
If using Microsoft's DNS tool, add a MailExchange (MX) type record.

Leave the Host or Domain text box empty.

Place the "SMTP-In.Mail-Filters.com" in the Mail Server text box.

Place the numeral 1 in the Mail Server priority text box and click the OK button.

If you need to have a third party ISP make the change for you here is a sample of the request email that you can send.

Please send the text to hostmaster@your-isp.com

Hostmaster,

I have subscribed to an email filtering service from Mail-Filters.com. For this service to work properly I need your assistance in adjusting my MX entries in DNS. Please leave my current entry and add the entry below:
    @ MX 1 SMTP-In.Mail-Filters.com
If you have any questions, please refer them to Support@Mail-Filters.com and cc: me at "youremailaddress".

Best regards, and thanks,

Your Name

Step 2: Choose a spam disposition option

There are 3 options for disposing of spam:
    1) Let the spam flow through to the end user marked (this is the default option). See step 4 for configuring the user email clients.

    2) Send all spam to an account of the administrators choosing. This will take all marked spam away from the users.

    3) Delete the spam. This options automatically deletes any message that is marked as spam.
Step 3: Configure your emails clients
Our service works by marking the spam emails. This is accomplished by setting up simple rules to move the spam to another folder, delete the spam, forward the spam, etc. Below are examples of rules and how to set them up by type of email client.

Note that the headers of the emails that are detected as spam are marked with X-Mail-Filters-SPAM and the Subject Field with XS:.
If you are using an email client not listed or would like assistance please contact us at Support@mail-filters.com and we would be happy to help.

Step 4: Decide whether to mark the Subject Line
Our service marks the headers of the email and you do not see any changes in addition to the subject field. We will mark it with XS: by default to signify the email is spam. If you would like the subject decoration to be something other than XS: or if you would like us to not mark the subject line, please let us know by sending us an email at Support@mail-filters.com.

Step 5: Enjoy spam-Free email
You are now ready to enjoy the benefits of our service.

We also offer custom lists for all clients to fine tune the service.

If you receive an email that was not marked as spam and you would like it to be marked as spam please forward the email to spam@mail-filters.com. In the subject heading please insert the words domain (if you would like this message blocked for your entire domain) or mailbox (if you would like this message blocked from only the mailbox it was sent to). We will make sure that you do not receive this in the future.

If you receive a message that was marked as spam and you would not like it marked as spam please forward the email to notspam@mail-filters.com. In the subject heading please insert the words domain (if you would like this message to be received for your entire domain) or mailbox (if you would like this message to be received only for the mailbox it was sent to). We will make sure that it will not be marked as spam in the future.
